comic

Author's Note: The first appearance of Ada. Also my first extreme worm's eye view; never did THAT again. The shackled Jackie in panel 2 still looks okay, even though it's how many years old.

Right away, with the first Ada appearance, I started to get obsessive. When this strip ran in the Pointer, I had forgotten to Zipatone Ada's bare midriff in panel 3. Not like anyone noticed--with the 20% screen, by the time the strip had been reduced and printed, Ada looked white anyway. But since then, I've been neurotic about missing part of Ada when I zip her. And I've switched to 40%.

Also, notice that I can't spell "worcestershire" at all. And the backgrounds are too busy. Where's the next strip, already?

Author's Note: This strip was funnier before it was actually drawn. That happens; Jackie's final line was at the time hysterical, and now I can't quite figure out what I was up to. Actually, this strip does feature two firsts: the first time I had two characters come in violent contact with each other (at the time I considered it an "action" sequence) and the first time I placed a Commander Cat reference (the cereal box in the lower left corner of panel 4; you can't really see it here). Ada's line in panel one is, "Hey Moto! How're yeu?!" referring, of course, to Moto Hagio, the creator of the shojo SF manga "They Were 11" and "A, A-prime", both recommended reading.

Commander Cat doesn't have his own strip; maybe some day in the future I'll have it designed, but not yet. He's a little cartoon cat in a space outfit who battles it out with two mice. He's dashing in a James Bond sort of way, and the mice are like an evil Laurel & Hardy. It's a popular cartoon show in the Jackie's Fridge universe, so you'll see Commander Cat merchandise pop up now and then, but don't hold your breath until you see an episode.
